Positioning Simulation Tool
Written by Novariant Inc.
Thursday, 18 June 2009

Novariant has released the GNSS Positoning Simulation Tool, providing managers, engineers and surveyors with detailed reports using pit shells provided by the mine.

According to Novariant, these reports are designed to aid the decision makers on the effectiveness of GNSS for their current and future pit designs as per their short and long term mine plans.

The report provides a graphic of the expected coverage at every point in a high-resolution 3D terrain model of the pit. The graphic is colour coded to provide a detailed and easy to understand account of what mine managers can expect. The analysis is fully configurable to the mine manager’s specifications.

The reports can provide graphics for both GPS and GLONASS satellites tracked and DOP values which affect HP position availability and accuracy. Available reports include minimum and average coverage, and custom signals computation for single/multiple points in the pit and active mining areas. The updated almanac data supports the current analysis.

A post mission analysis can also be performed to identify any positioning related problems that may have impacted HP machine navigation applications. Only the active satellites from the post-marked dates are taken into account for this type of analysis.

Novariant provides satellite augmentation in deep open-pit mines through its primary product, Terralite XPS system.
