In-shore, de-sludging with Digmaster Pro 3D
Being a long time in the business, sometimes you think that you have seen all types of machines and their configurations – not true. During In-Shore harbour de-sludging in Hamburg-Moorburg, civil engineering company Heinrich Weseloh is using one of their special excavators. The investment for this machine with all of its’ niche applications has exceeded the cost of the machine, so says management. Different dipper extensions with different lengths are only some of the specialty and unique features. And now the customer has requested the machine to be equipped with a 3D GPS solution. NO GO? – Would be the answer from some manufacturers in the industry. “YES, WE CAN!” was the answer of German Prolec distributor Illig Lasersysteme. And in additions the customer asked: “Can I use Trimble GPS solution?” Again the answer was: “YES, YOU CAN, if you have the correct type!”
At this the unique Digmaster Pro 3D system flexibility in regards to machine configuration comes to operation. The machine is not only equipped with a hydraulic adjustable boom, but also several dipper extensions with different lengths are used. Therefore configurations with up to four articulations can be achieved. All possible constellations available due to the different long dipper extensions are memorised in system at the same time. As a result operator is able to select machine type depending on equipment without doing any additional necessary calibration work. The same is valid for all stored tools, like for example a clamshell with long stick.
This is not all. After sorting all that out, the customer wished to use a tilting bucket as well, together with all his adjustable booms, extensions etc., etc., etc.. The machine now is equipped with a sensor combination based on Prolec´s AS7 and AS8 marine sensors to safeguard submarine work. In addition a possible further AS7 dual axis tilting bucket sensor which sums up to 7 possible sensors in a row on the CAN Bus. And all is working within the required accuracy of 3-5 cm.
Another reason for choosing Digmaster Pro 3D was the intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI), which with its icon driven menu, enabled the operator to fully utilise the system rapidly and easily, achieving optimum productivity from the first day of installation. Return of investment for system cost? Easy done in one job, if you can use these kind of special machines faster and much more accurate than before, especially when it comes to submarine applications.
