Annual free event includes tours, exhibits and entertainment

September 7, 2010, Save the date and don’t miss the 6th Annual Green Port Fest on Saturday, October 2, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., a free event hosted by the Port of Long Beach.

Green Port Fest offers a behind-the-scenes journey through one of the world’s busiest seaports. Hop aboard a Metrolink train or take in the view from the water on one of many harbor tours throughout the day. Visit dozens of interactive exhibits to learn about environmental programs that make the Port of Long Beach one of the greenest ports.

This year, Green Port Fest will feature the Wyland Living Green Fair, a one-of-a-kind interactive exhibit by world famous muralist and environmental activist Wyland. Wyland will be on hand to paint a "super-sized" canvas with the help of families attending Green Port Fest.

Plus:

Learn about green technologies like shore power that allows ships to plug into landside electricity instead of running their diesel engines when docked.
Check out the latest in state-of-the-art security technology like remote controlled underwater cameras that protect the Port.
Get up and close to "top picks," "yard hostlers" and other heavy equipment that move cargo containers around Port terminals.
See the variety of wildlife in the harbor.
Enjoy family friendly entertainment, including local musical acts like the Elm Street Band, and children’s activities.
Bike tours, games, giveaways, food and more.
Free parking is provided by the Long Beach Convention Center, but attendees are encouraged to carpool, bike or ride city buses. Train tours are courtesy of Metrolink.
