Noland
Welcome to our September 2012 eNewsletter.
It is hard to believe it's already September. Sort of like the Olympics, we have been preparing for MineExpo 2012 this month which is also held every four years. As in 2008, MineExpo will be at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Our upcoming print edition will focus on mining and developments at the show. If you haven't registered to receive the print magazine, take a moment to do so. You'll receive the upcoming issue and future editions for no charge.
In this issue we have three new articles from our esteemed authors. The theme—software and data prep—is appropriate. Digital Terrain Models (DTM) are the fuel that drives 3D machine control and positioning.
I would like to mention the passing of Kent Hutson since our last newsletter. We send our heartfelt condolences to Kent's family. He will be missed by many. Paul Hahn and Kent worked together at Nikon some years back and Paul, along with others, is working on a story about times with Kent. Once completed, we will post on machinecontrolonline.com.
Best regards,
Randy Noland

Chad CooperChainsaws and Crayons by Chad Cooper: – My choice to be an engineer was a pretty simple one: I hate to write and I love to draw. So I figured, in my infinite teenage wisdom, that engineering was a good choice for me. Unfortunately, from the day I started college until now, the writing portion of my job has always threatened to take over the drawing portion. Over the ...

Redefine FAST with Topcon’s 3D-MC²

3D-MC² will drastically change the role your dozer plays on a typical site, in some cases eliminating the need for a grader. It will also allow you to make more efficient use of your dozer.

Along with speed increases, 3D-MC² means fewer passes resulting in much more work done in less time.
