Welcome to the January 2010 edition of our eNewsletter.
Happy New Year! I trust everyone ate well over the holidays and is all rested up, batteries charged, and ready for 2010. We are excited to be entering our second year here at MCo, and are committed to continue bringing you the latest news and product information for all things positioning and machine control. We expect continued growth as more companies adopt this exciting technology.
In this issue, we have 6 new and exclusive articles from our team of industry veterans. I also would like to extend a warm welcome to Jurgen Reineke who authored this months Spotlight Article. Please take a look, as you are sure to find something beneficial for you and your company.
The response from our first poll exceeded expectations. Thanks for all the great feedback! Data prep, product reviews and case studies were the most requested content and we promise to continue delivering in 2010. But the most encouraging overall response was that the vast majority of our readers are upbeat about the prospects for revenue growth in 2010.
We would like to congratulate Thad Glankler of Glankler Data Services in South Carolina, who won the drawing from our first MCo Poll. Thad won his pick of one of the fine historical maps from The American Surveyor. Look for our next Poll in February.

Site Connectivity – Positioning & Machine Control’s Next Technology Step - Our world is getting smaller. Connectivity is literally in the palm of our hands. The Bottom Line: Layout Tools - Even with 3D machine control systems on site, there still remains a need for construction layout. If you employ machine control, the number of stakes and check shots will definitely be decreased but some layout will still be needed. So what are the options and what capabilities are available with today’s modern layout systems? ...

It's All About the Data: Software Review: Carlson Construction 2010
- AutoCAD or IntelliCAD? I have had the chance to work with IntelliCAD (ICAD) some. It used to be buggy, but has been stable with recent releases. I usually run Carlson programs in AutoCAD for 2 reasons. I have become familiar with it, and research material is more readily available. If you have no ...

Machine Control & the Land Surveyor: The Liability Issue - One of the most common questions I am asked at seminars is about the issue of liability for land surveyors that are involved in machine control set up and 3D model preparation. Many land surveyors are very concerned about the potential liability issues that could arise from mistakes on a site calibration or localization, or ...

Data Prep: Tips, Tricks & Techniques: How Do You Eat a Highway? One Piece at a Time - Heavy highway. It is the only type of project I have ever heard of someone refusing to build data for. It is by far the most common type of project that we are called upon to rebuild after someone failed in their attempt to build it. And it still makes my stomach hurt when I hear ...

Machine Guidance Systems: 2D and 3D Excavation Simplified – For the newcomer, machine guidance can be a tricky business to understand, and the number of solution providers and system types can cause much confusion.
