Welcome to the October 2009 edition of our eNewsletter.
I have had a busy three weeks of travel. I have been in Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Kansas City, Savannah and Ft. Myers, Florida. All trips business related, of course. I will be posting videos from my travels, including a 3D Machine Control user testimonial and footage from the grand opening of a new John Deere dealer facility, NorTrax, in Ft. Myers, Florida. These videos will be forthcoming in our next newsletter.
In this issue, our theme is training, training, and more training. We have listed 10 companies offering education from 3D machine control operation to data prep. Please see the article below from Paul and I, "The Value of Training." We have 4 additional exclusive articles from our regular contributing authors. I hope you will give these all a read.
I would also like to welcome Bill Crumb of Machine Control Technologies as our guest author. Bill shares his vast experience in his article, "New Technology Tools & Old Dirt Moving Methods."
I hope you enjoy the newsletter. Please stay tuned, visiting us often, as we update the website daily.

The Value of Training - Would you hire a machinist who wasn’t exactly sure how to use a lathe? What about a mechanic who knew only "a little" about tuning a car? It takes good tools and good skills to do any job well. Yet even with this knowledge, companies routinely ask their highly paid technical employees to use ....

It's All About the Data: Training the Trainer - I am in the process of preparing training manuals for software training classes we are going to begin soon. The good news is we have years of experience with thousands of jobs under our belts, the bad news is we have too much information. I know you don’t care to learn how I wrote a script to translate and ….

Machine Control & the Land Surveyor: How Do I Charge for building 3D Machine Control Data? - Over the past few weeks I have been teaching a seminar titled "Stake Your Claim in Machine Control Guidance and Digital Terrain Modeling" in conjunction with another licensed land surveyor and the sales manager for a machine control dealer. Data Prep: Tips, Tricks & Techniques: Contours You Could Live by - To continue my discussion of contours, I want to address the last type of project: subdivisions. Subdivisions are somewhat unique in our project types in that they can vary greatly in both detail and scope. A subdivision in Arkansas may have only a series of roadways and no detail for the lots once you ….

New Technology Spotlight: Wireless-2D Excavator System - New Price Point! - In my previous article I announced that I had been researching the various excavator machine guidance products as a means of bringing me up to speed with the latest available product and technologies. Subsequent to this I decided to narrow my focus and look for products that would ....
