Welcome to the mid-February 2012 edition of our eNewsletter.
As I work on this newsletter while traveling home from a business trip to Europe, the flight attendant's words echo with economic parallel. "The captain has turned on the fasten seat belt sign. We are now crossing a zone of turbulence. Please return to your seats and keep your seat belts fastened."
Unemployment is down but so is consumer confidence. Hiring is on the rise as is instability in the Middle East. In the US, we navigate through yet another election year, which can stagnate the waters of recovery with a "wait and see" attitude. Holy cow! How about some slow and steady growth with a bit of predictably?
A rollercoaster ride to be sure I am more optimistic that I may sound. Many clients and colleagues are reporting positive trends of increased positioning systems adoption, which of course translates to increased sales. I hope our newsletter and magazine will provide you with a valuable knowledge base as you explore 3D machine control.
In this issue, we have four new articles from our esteemed authors. Subjects include tips on how to find government contracts, data sharing (very important!) and success stories of how companies are solving problems and growing their businesses with 3D machine control.
As always, I hope you enjoy this newsletter! Please stay tuned, visiting us often as we update the website daily. Please drop me a line if there is any subject about which you would like to see more information. I personally read every email! |

Help From Above: For Carolina Farmer, GPS-based System Streamlines Planting and more
In the last 20 years or so, the face of the mid- to large-scale farming operation has undergone a dramatic change. From the use of satellite imagery to enhance irrigation efforts, to the use of computer technology to know the precise egg production of each laying hen, to truly robotic dairy cow milking systems, change has become the rule rather than the exception. And as operating ....

How to Find Government Contracts by Paul F. Hahn: – There are many opportunities for substantial contracts with the US Government. However, finding your way through all the Govt. websites and learning some of the unique Govt. nomenclature can be a time-consuming task. In this article I will discuss some basics and key indicators that should save you a considerable ...

Data Sharing; Different Approaches for 3D Machine Control by Marco Cecala: – I have long been a proponent of everyone involved with a civil construction job having the same data. It is not important how the data was prepared, it is critical that all parties involved have it to review and work from. This may seem contrary to what is expected. We all want correct …

Leveling the Field by Don Talend: – Evidently, Charleston, S.C.-based Banks Construction never got the memo that a severe economic downturn has been underway since December 2007. Four years later, the grading and paving contractor had as much highway and commercial slab work as it could handle in South Carolina. Good thing Banks had purchased both rough and fine ...

Major Highway Reconstruction Benefits from Technology by Jeff Winke: – When talking highways in America, everyone knows that the capital letter “I” preceding a number stands for “Interstate.” There’s I-94, which runs from Montana to Michigan. There’s I-80 that runs from New Jersey to California. And there’s I-96, which…. well, starts in Norton Shores, Mich. and ends ...
